Character Strengths

How Our Amazing Person Model Helps Students to Develop Character Strengths

Character is a habit of mind developed through a set of traits or dispositions that guide conduct, motivation and feelings. Strengths are positive personal characteristics, including personality traits, psychological abilities, moral qualities and talents, that feel natural and enjoyable to develop and practise. Each one of the groups in the Amazing Person Model contains four character strengths. For example Strengths of the Head – How I Think contains creativity, curiosity, open-mindedness and optimism. The learning platform allows students to identify their strengths and develop their whole person. You can download a free poster of the Model here.

I have been using Amazing People Schools since the first lockdown. I was sent an email and decided to give it a try and I am ever so glad that I did. It is a great resource. It is part of our daily routine and an important part of the recovery curriculum. During the Black Lives Matter demonstrations, I used Amazing People Schools to introduce my class to several phenomenal Black people including Louis Armstrong, Abebe Bikila and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. It was so effective and well received by children that I decided to continue using it as part of my daily routine.
