OPEN-MINDEDNESS

“The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”

Although his mother wanted him to pursue drama and acting, from a young age Jamal knew that he wanted to be a part of the music industry. At the age of 15, he was given a video camera, and he started filming his friends and posting the videos online. This led to his YouTube channel, SBTV, which helped launch the careers of rappers such as Stormzy, Skepta and Dave, as well as pop stars like Ed Sheeran and Jessie J. Jamal also designed a line of headwear, wrote a hugely popular book, and founded a grassroots youth-centre project. Jamal was also a huge inspiration to others, and he encouraged people to chase big dreams and express themselves how they want.

Even though you might be very good or successful at one thing, are you able to stay open-minded and try new things?

Another creative on our site is the amazing Michelangelo. He was a famous sculptor in Italy and lived from 1475 to 1564. He enjoyed working with marble and created fantastic sculptures which are still admired today. The Pope of the time asked him to paint the apostles on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo felt himself to be ill-equipped to do this as he didn’t regard himself as a painter. However, he was adaptable and agreed to the task, eventually painting over 300 biblical figures on the ceiling. It remains a masterpiece of Renaissance art. Get your free access details to explore more about his story and how you can develop adaptability further in your life.
