COURAGE
Aged 12, Gulwali Passarlay and his brother were forced to leave the dangers of Afghanistan and search for safety abroad. Separated immediately, he set out on a harrowing year-long journey on his own. He faced extreme discomfort and imprisonment. He needed to develop his optimism, resilience and courage, as well as learning gratitude and tolerance. Finally he reached safety and was awarded refugee status in the UK. After studying, he now uses his book The Lightless Sky to raise awareness and he co-founded My Bright Kite to help other young refugees arriving in the UK.
